To become a lawyer, you have to register yourself as an advocate in any of the state bar council which is regulated by the Advocates Act 1961. After registration, you must clear All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The exam is conducted by Bar Council of India, and once you clear it, you get a certificate of practice.
After these procedures, you can start practice in any court of India.
Difference between attorney and lawyer
An attorney actually practices law in court whereas a lawyer may or may not.
An attorney has passed the bar exam and has been approved to practice law in his jurisdiction.
Although the terms often operate as synonyms, an attorney is a lawyer but a lawyer is not necessarily an attorney.
